Distance Education School

Learn about distance education programs for a college degree!

Distance education is also known as distance learning, literally meaning learning from a distance from the main classroom, using distance education schools.  Students are able to learn in their own chosen environment, sometimes choose the hours and times they study, at their own pace, submit their assignments via mail or email, communicate with their teachers or tutors via phone/mail/email/fax, do tests and exams either in class or via the Internet, and are able to use a far broader range of learning methods than regular students.  These learning methods are used by a distance education school include regular course books and papers, plus television programs, websites, radio programs and even field trips to related places.

Countries like the United Kingdom have been using distance learning through distance education schools for many years.  It is able to offer this in all levels of education, especially in post-graduate education.  They both use the ‘Open University’ distance education schools’ systems whereby television programming designed for the courses are shown everyday, morning and night, and are accessible even for those not on the course.  Television broadcasting companies like the BBC run the programming side of ‘Open University’ in the United Kingdom.  This system has being in place for over 35 years, and the degrees awarded are recognized worldwide, including masters and doctorates.

Other forms of distance learning include correspondence courses.  Correspondence courses range from business administration to journalism, and involve mailing course materials/assignments/tests, doing assignments in any location worldwide as chosen by the student, and can achieve anything from a certificate to a university degree.  One of the best examples of this is the distance education school called the London School of Journalism, located in the United Kingdom.  It is just under a century old, is the most prestigious journalism education on the planet, and its diploma is recognized worldwide by every media outlet as being the cream of the crop, out ranking any university journalism course currently available.  In fact, such courses, whether correspondence or other have been proven by millions of adults to be far more flexible, beneficial in some areas of study and careers, and more practical as it allows people to study whilst not interfering with their regular daily routines.
