School Security
Schools today are taking the safety of their students, teachers, and other staff very seriously. With their being the risk of many things happening, they realize they need to be responsible and give parents something to feel good about when it comes to safety in schools. After all, schools are supposed to be places where students are safe and can learn and be educated without worry of crime, violence, or abuse. School security is something that most schools are implementing in various ways.
School security comes into schools in many ways, depending on the grade levels of the schools. For instance, most elementary schools are now only allowing parents and visitors to enter the building through one door, which is constantly locked and monitored. Most of the schools have cameras that allow the office staff to determine whether to let the visitor in or not. Visitors then have to check in with the main office before they can step foot into another area of the building. This helps avoid having visitors running around the schools unnecessarily. Parents feel great about the addition of security measures like these.
Another way they are bulking up school security is with safety guards. Most middle and high schools are beginning to employ safety guards for their schools. These guards drive in marked cars, carry weapons, and are able to arrest student if necessary. They make sure students are doing what they should be doing. In an event of a disturbance, they are on call to assist. This is very important for the safety of the children, teachers, and staff. For instance, if there is a fight among students, instead of a teacher getting involved and possibly getting hurt, they can call security to be on the scene within two minutes or less in most cases.
