Earth Science Curriculum

Whether earth science is taught to public school children or home school children, there are ways to make class instructions lively and interesting. Some children love science. They enjoy learning about plants, animals, rocks, the planet, and more. Then again, other children consider the subject boring and can’t wait for class time to end. Unfortunately, earth science is a part of life, and every student will likely have an earth science class. To keep the class exciting, some teachers have spruced up the earth science curriculum. True, the curriculum outlined by the state and school board doesn’t allow much deviation. Still, teachers can get creative and make the class a great experience.

Rather than stick strictly to the textbook and recite a bunch of facts about earth science, school teachers can get their children involved in the curriculum.  An earth science curriculum calls for a certain amount of classroom instruction, note taking, and comprehension tests. However, other aspects of earth science can facilitate learning. For example, classroom field trips are great learning experiences.  After classroom instruction that involves discussions about rocks, minerals, the weather, and so forth – children can venture outdoors and put their knowledge to the test. Discover natural resources on the school ground, or create an outdoor weather lab.

If choosing to home school your child, you can also make the earth science curriculum fun. Homeschoolers can join others and take fields trips to a science or natural science museum. In addition, a trip to your local beach or park can reveal a host of hidden rocks and minerals. Picking a fun and lively earth science curriculum isn’t hard. However, you must be willing to think outside the box. Your child will appreciate and thank you for the change of pace, and you’ll make science an enjoyable educational experience.
