Government Lesson Plans
If you teach government, then you know that not all of your students are clinging to your every word. Some will certainly be interested in the government, but many will not. It is your job to make your government lesson plans fun and interactive so it keeps the interest level high. When you make your government lesson plans, you will need to keep in mind that the information you teach is important and your students will need to have a solid understanding of your subject so they can progress.
Keeping Government Lesson Plans Interesting:
The good news is that while you may have a hard time engaging all of your students all of the time, there are things that you can do to ensure that you are keeping their interest. You will need to have good focus on your subject and make sure you include all the critical information. If you are learning about local government, then consider taking your students on a field trip to your local city hall. All ages can appreciate the local government and you can be certain that your mayor or city manager will enjoy talking to the students.
If you find that a field trip is not possible, then you might want to invite local politicians to your school. Talk to your local city council members, mayor, and judges and even state representatives to come into your school and teach your students about how the local government affects them each and every day.
When you learn about state government, then try to arrange a field trip to your state capitol. Many school districts sponsor these kinds of field trips for middle school students and high school students. This is a great way for students to actually see government working.
Keep these tips in mind when planning your government lesson plans for the upcoming school year.
