Health Lesson Plans

Health at all ages is critical. When you are dealing with elementary age students, then this knowledge forms a solid foundation of learning. They will learn basic health guidelines that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. Whether it is learning about healthy food choices, exercising, or proper dental care, you need to make sure your health lesson plans are interactive and education.

Go to Your Local Community:
One of the best ways to make sure that your students stay interested in your health lessons plans is to look to your local community for help. There are many people out there who are more than willing to offer tours or come to the school for a talk. If you are studying dental care, then how about asking a local dentist to come to the school and make a presentation. You can do the same for a unit on the human body (ask a doctor), or for a unit about hygiene. When you make your health lesson plans, make use of these people and you will find that your students will feel more engaged in the lesson.

At Home Projects:
Another good way to really get your point across when it comes to your health lesson plans is to assign projects that can be completed at home. These can be anything from keeping an eating journal to keeping a daily brushing chart.  You might even have your kids help with the grocery shopping or keep tabs on nutritional labels on the food that they eat. If you are studying healthy foods, older kids can be required to prepare a meal for the parents. These are all great ways to teach health to younger age groups.

Health lesson plans should not be all about learning straight from the textbook or completing worksheets. Get interactive with your kids for better results.
