History Lesson Plans

History can be a fascinated subject if you as the teacher, keeps your students engaged and interested in the lesson. Rote memorization and boring lectures will lose your students. When you plan your history lesson plans, keep this in mind and add some educational and hands-on projects. Here are some suggestions to keep your history students coming back for more.

Live Reenactments:

Here is a great idea that you can add to your history lesson plans: live reenactments. Take whatever time period you are learning about and turn it into a living history lesson. For example, if you are teaching your students about Colonial America, then set aside two or three days out of the week where the kids dress and live as the colonists did so many years ago. Kids love coming up with and wearing costumes and this is a perfect time to teach them real lessons. You can teach them how to bake bread, how to make butter, calligraphy, colonial games and school lessons and quilting. You can be sure that you students will never forget these history lesson plans.

Musical Programs:
Kids may not learn much by lectures, but add music and movement and you have an educational and engaging way to teach your students anything. Take some time to teach them a musical program related to what you are teaching in class. Add in some interesting facts and you have just created an interactive history lesson. After your students have mastered the music, invite parents in for a show.
