Home School
If you wish to home school you child there are some pros and cons you should definitely take into consideration, including time and cost requirements. You should also look into home school laws in your state; some states have restrictions while others are a lot more lenient.
Some of the pros of doing home school are the ability to watch your child learn and grow through all their phases of life. This helps the child feel comfortable with his learning ability and now feel different if they learn slower or faster then the other children in the class. A home school gives the child a greater sense of security as well as letting them develop more as an individual by not having them feel the need to fit in with all the trends and perhaps dangerous behaviors that other children may be doing, and on that same thought it also protects them from peer pressure. At a home school a student can learn at their own rate, they may learn something years before other students or years after, if they don’t feel really interested in a specific course at the moment you can work on a different course that they may prefer and wait until the child is ready to work on the other. A major benefit with this is that a child who isn’t interested in learning something specific at that time will have a hard time retaining it and in public schools you can’t just up and change subject in the middle of class. That’s just a few pro’s of a home school.
As with everything there’s also cons to home school. A major con can be the cost and time constraints on the parent. You have to purchase the materials needed for teaching your child, pay for possible trips for learning. As for the time restraints, one problem is you are now with your child nearly 24/7 and this could be a little stressing on a parent when they have no time for themselves. Another problem with a home school is the lack of interaction with peers of the same age; this could possibly restrict the development of some social skills that will be needed in the future. Another issue that may arise is that your child may wish to participate in competitive sports and without the easily accessed school sports department it could be hard, especially if you town doesn’t have any form of sports leagues set up. These are just a few of the many pro’s and con’s of creating a home school for your child.
